Color calibration

Postby annie00 » Fri 21. Apr 2017, 06:17

I was just setting up Windows 10 and it just went from blue set up screen to plain black. I can see the back lights are on but the whole thing has gone blank. Restarting it has not worked. I know the surface pro did that sometimes but they had force start up button, what do I do for the MSP13 :s FIXED

Also is there a way to calibrate the screens color display settings for the MSP while it is attached to a mac? The MSP screen looks very bright with a reddish purple tinge to it. I'd like it to resemble the mac screen somewhat at least.

color calibration?

Postby annie00 » Fri 21. Apr 2017, 08:35

Ok so I managed to use the hold power button and lower volume button down for 15 seconds command to force start windows, which is what is used on the surface pro. Have got it up and running.

I'd still like to know if there was a way to calibrate the colours so they're not so oversaturated and pinkish red when connected to the mac. Also if there is a way to tone down the brightness. Very bright and saturated colours are really painful to look at x.x

same reddish thing here with the CP16, looking forward for help!!

if the color are ok in windows then is not the unit, but the OSX drivers, but is unusable right now

I'm running the MSP 16 with an external display. The external display is hardware calibrated with a x-rite colormunki photo. Colors look great.
I also tried to software calibrate the MSP 16 with the colorminki photo because there is a red/magenta cast.
But even after calibrating the red cast stays. With dark grays you can see it very well. Due to the red cast, dark grey looks darker then they should.

I also tried with the software displaycal. Same result, but I got a weird report also. When you change the display settings of the wacom from native or AdobeRGB to sRGB, DisplayCal says the display only covers 66% of the sRGB colorspace which is useless for photoediting. When leaving it on AdobeRGB it says it covers 124% of sRGB colorspace and something arround 88% AdobeRGB. Meanwhile Wacom claims 100% sRGB en 94% AdobeRGB.
AdobeRGB is useless when looking at websites, because colors are over saturated.

If displaycal is correct, and after selecting the sRGB profile in the Wacom display settings, I only has 66% sRGB colorspace, then there is a major issue. Missing 34% colors could explain the incorrect neutral grey.

I played all day yesterday with calibration.
because I can hardware calibrate my external monitor, the ColorMunki Photo was connected to an USB port on the monitor (requirement of the software). I tried connecting the ColorMunki directly to the USB hub on the USB C port.
This gave better results, less red, but still present. Using an DisplayCAL 3 I even got better result (darkest grays are no longer black). But those darkest grays are still magenta tinted. It also report around 88% of sRGB coverage when using the sRGB Wacom profile. When using the AdobeRGB i get 124% sRGB coverage. But for viewing website I need sRGB profile.
Wen I look at the graphs, I see correct coverage of green, red is far outside the range, but the blues and purple are not saturated enough to cover the sRGB range, and also AdobeRGB.
