Apple announced that 10.13 High Sierra will be released on Sep 25th. Wacom is currently working on a driver update to support this OS and will be ready by late Oct. Apps and Resources for CCH

Postby artistebot » Thu 5. Jan 2017, 01:14

There seems to be very little information on good Android or Wacom Companion Hybrid art apps and usage, from the perspective of artist actually using the apps frequently. I am posting here some of my observations and experiences.

Application functions can be assigned to Hardware/Express Keys and Pen Buttons.
There are several Android Apps well adapted to the Android hardware, as they provide options within each application, to assign in-app functions such as tool swap, brush size, eye dropper, and so on to Cintiq express buttons.

Clover Paint This app seems to have more customization functions than Photoshop. Two functions can be assigned to each button based on the position of the stylus to the screen..brilliant!

Infinite Painter Lots and lots of tools.

TVpaint Animation 11 Full pro application that is the same as the Desktop version. Bundled in Europe with the CCH.

Applications that recognize the Wacom Pen tilt function.

Clover Paint Can be set to affect different parameters, such as orientation, size, shape, and opacity. The same or similar settings should work on any brush.
I have attached a brush file with tilt parameters active. To import the brush into Clover Paint, do the following steps:
#1 Tools-File: Opens access to file options.
#2 File-Import-Image: Place image in empty layer
#3 Select any Brush- Brush Imp; the "clover" should show up in the middle of you screen.

Art Rage The basic airbrush tool recognizes tilt.

Infinite Painter The Beta version has had tilt implemented from time to time.

There is a bit of a misconception that Android is lacking in capable or even production level art applications, here is a list of fully featured 2D art apps that work well with a stylus enabled Android device:

Clover Paint https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... aint&hl=en

Infinite Painter https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... nter&hl=en

AutoDesk Sketchbook Pro https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... book&hl=en

ArtRage https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... tore&hl=en

ArtFlow: Paint Draw Sketchbook https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... flow&hl=en

LayerPaint HD https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... nthd&hl=en

MediBang Paint https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... blet&hl=en

TVPaint Animation 11 http://www.tvpaint.com/nomad

RoughAnimator https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... ator&hl=en

There are many more painting apps than these, but these are the ones I keep installed on my devices. There is also a fully featured 3D modeling app called SpaceDraw https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... draw&hl=en

For "Photoshop-like" image editing I prefer PhotoSuite Pro 4 or Photoshop Touch There is a port of GIMP is also available on Android, GIMP/Inkscape https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.dandroidmobile.xgimp

Android is capable of Multitasking.

Combined with a large format screen provides for a good work-flow experience. There are several floating/multitasking apps on the Google Play Store, most of which are browsers and video players. For simple Image reference when I paint, I recommend in order usefulness:

1. Popup Gallery https://m.downloadatoz.com/popup-gallery/com.bora.pgallery/

2. Mr. Float https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sun.mrfloat.trial

3. Popup Image Viewer https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zzanggasoft.popup_imageviewer

This is an area where the custom Android OS on Samsung Notes really stand out and add to their value.

There seems to be little organized effort to highlight the capability of the mobile Art creation platform. Here is a couple sites dedicated to Android, iOS, and mobile art creation:

A few tips on Clover Paint

Clover Paint it really well suited for use on the CCH. Its interface is not very user friendly at first, but is highly customizable and can be configured to have a almost any work flow desired.

The developer is Japanese, but an english user guide can be found here:

A few video tutorials can be found here:

The developer (Inoue Takashi) can read English and is very responsive to bugs or feature requests.

Here is a screen shot of how I was able to set-up Clover Paint for my needs, I am constantly creating new brushes for it, so hopefully I can share them in the future.

I hope this can help out anyone who wishes to get more out of their CCH. Sadly support for the CCH seems to have ended, however there is a few other on-line resources for CCH support here:
