Mac-Based Companion?

Postby Johnbarnesiii » Thu 19. Jul 2018, 19:41

Hi guys,

I’m looking for a Companion that is Mac based. Will Wacom ever make a Companion using Mac OS instead of Windows?

Otherwise, what are some Mac-based alternatives or workarounds?

For example, is it possible to run Mac OS onto the Windows based Companion using VirtualBox or something of the like?

Other options I’ve read about are ModBook Pro by Axiotron, however those appear to be discontinued and don’t work with current Mac models.

I don’t want to go iPad bc I want to use Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator.

Are there any other suggestions?

This is not legally possible as long as Apple does not allow MacOS to run on non-Apple hardware.

Interesting, I wasn’t aware Apple doesn’t allow Mac OS to run on Windows, especially considering that Boot Camp software for Mac legally runs Windows on a Mac!

With that said, what are some alternatives? Is Wacom planning to make a Mac OS based MobileStudio Pro?

I was thinking a Cintiq with a Mac Mini attached could work, then I forgot that it needs to be plugged in at all times bc it doesn’t have built in battery.

Are the Axiotron ModBook Pros obsolete? How else can I get a portable Wacom pen computer running Mac OS, legally of course? What are my options?

Bootcamp is Apple software that allows to run Windows on Macs. The other direction is not allowed by Apple. Unless Apple changes its mind, MacOS will only run on Apples own hardare and not on computers from other companies. - You can attach a Companion2 to a Mac and use it as monitor and input device for the Mac.

Re: Mac-Based MobileStudio Pro?

Thank you, two more questions:

1) Is Wacom ever planning to make a Mac OS based MobileStudio Pro?
2) In the absence of a Mac-based MobileStudio Pro, what is the next most portable option to get closest to a Mac-based MobileStudio Pro? Is it simply to buy a MacBook Pro and attach a Cintiq? Ideally I'm looking for all in solution, not just using the MSP as a monitor as you suggest. It must be portable.

Thanks!

Wacom is not planning anything that is not legally possible. Only Apple can provide computers with MacOS.
