MSP 16 with Power Bank

Postby denniscalero » Sat 21. Jan 2017, 15:00

Hello! Love my MSP16.

I previously had the CC2 and I used this power bank for on the road power that would last 5-6 hours

http://www.bixpower.com/Bat-BP220-p/bat-bp220.htm

I'd like to use it with this computer as well.

I purchased this 2.5 to usb-c adapter

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00YA ... UTF8&psc=1

But it doesn't work.

Bix claims the power bank should provide enough power. They also suggested that the Wacom power adapter may have some sort of baked in software key that will prevent this from working.

Any thoughts?

You need a powerbank that supporsts 5V 3A output. The one I use is this one

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B014Z ... UTF8&psc=1

ANKER Core+ 20100 MaH Its the best one out atm, though make sure you're using an IF certified cable and shorter = more power too.

This one ( tested by google engineers ) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01AS ... UTF8&psc=1
Supports up to 60W.

Hope this helps.

Hello,

Me too have the same problem with power banks and my Mobile Studio Pro 13".

I've tried to buy the same Anker Power bank suggested by xLunaPx and a Thunderbolt 3 cable to ensure the power delivery, but my great displeasure nothing happens.

And I can't figure out why.
I suppose it's not due to the MSP, because when I plug it to its power brick it charges normally...

Please, anyone can help me?

to the previous posters point (and with thanks of course) im looking for something that has been tested. I had a power bank that should work,
but it was the manufacturers opinion that the wacom usb-c port is somehow software coded to only accept their adapter.

Ugh! :-(
So it is supposed that is impossible to find a power bank that works with this device??!!
Why wacom should have take such inglorious decision to prevent their customers to use a power bank with MSP?

So can I to return my two power banks to Amazon?
As you said seems to don't be hope to make them work with MSP, right?

There are different USB-C profiles for charging.
The MSP 13/16 requires USB-C “Profile 5” compliant devices for charging (20V, 5A)
Unfortunately Anker does not have one of those yet - that's what their support told me. Might be changing in the future, hopefully.

So I haven't found any working Powerbank yet and would love to hear from somebody who as it actually working.

This is correct. You need a power pack with USB-C Profile-5 for MSP as workstation performance and Nvidia card need a lot of power. There is no technical Wacom-only restriction for the ports.

Hello As I am professional reviewer of Power Banks I can tell you how you can find the best power bank for your device
You need to find the input voltage and current ratings first as MPS 16 would probably need 2.1A of currents you should by the following power banks as given here:

You were able to get these items to work with your MSP? Got these two items listed that you recommended but they dont seem to work with my MSP.

Hey there,

You're going to need to know the Input of your device first. Most power banks are advertised to provide enough power that they're able to charge laptop devices; however, that's simply not true most of the time because most laptops require a lot of power to actually be charged. This is especially true for power banks that have USB-C ports because even though they have USB-C ports, the amount of power such as 5V/3.0A simply isn't enough because the Voltage is too low.

I believe Anker does have power banks that are powerful enough to provide enough power to laptops such as their PowerCore Speed PD. Check out https://www.chargerharbor.com/ for review on Anker power banks and other charging electronics.
