Link plus not responding after windows reinstall.

Postby RatherBeWorking » Sun 26. Apr 2020, 21:12

Hi forum.

After six month of dealing with various bugs MSP 16, I have decided to try a fresh install of windows. Now the "Link Plus" does not respond anymore. Is´s not going into the "No screen detected" ( or something like that ), when the connection is wrong, like it used to do. It´s just dead, no respond. Been troubleshooting for a few days now, and cant find anything that works. I have the right cables, it´s been running fine before the windows reset.

So anyone, how do I get my Link plus to run the MSP again??

Reinstalled windows because the it kept restarting, not a heat issue. Sometime right after reboot, with a cold CPU. ( Diden´t find a solution)
Also had a problem i Photoshop CS5. Pressure kept falling out every 20-30 stroke, leaving a big fat line(even with PSUserConfig). Impossible to work with, but rolling back to: WacomTablet_6.3.29-6 driver solve the issue. Navigation in windows became an absolute pain, the pen falls out out and had to do a Ctrl-Alt-Del / taskmanager, to get pen response back. ( Not moving, just button press.) Also Photoshop lost the ability to copy/Paste here and there, but drawing was great.

Other stuff. Downloaded the "Intel graphics command center" from Windows store, playing around with the refresh rate took the blinking away, when connecting a secondary monitor. Also a big thing if you have the MSP in Landscape(Flipped), then right clicking on the 2 display( in Connected displays) and selecting "Mirror", will flip the second monitor, and not the MSP when duplicating displays.

That was some problems i have solved. Hope youu will help me with mine.
I am so hoping for a solution, since I love drawing on this device, but hate using countless day troubleshooting. I would..

Can you confirm which version of the MSP you have? The previous version, or the new 2019 version? Please check the model number and let me know.
The Wacom Link Plus was not created to support the previous MSP version so I would need to understand how you have been using it until now.

Also, how did you reinstall Windows? Did you just reset the Windows installation from the Windows recovery tools or did you use a different method?

Hi Wacom5.

Yes I have the older version MSP 16 i7 16inch, Quadro M1000M.
I did the recovery install / the long version where it deletes all the files.

When I plug the Link plus in using the wrong power slot. windows notification shows up, linking to this site:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/hel ... ionlimited

The right slot does nothing. I use the mini display which was working the the best before the reinstall, also tried the Hdmi out but still no respond.

Tried adding a second monitor through a Dell WB15 dock (Hdmi). That works.

In my search I found on the 101.wacom a link to Wacom drivers needed for windows. http://101.wacom.com/UserHelp/en/Instal ... ayLink.htm

Installed the ones I could without paying for the install wizard. So followed the "Corporate Installers".

Also tried installing: 425.25-tesla-desktop-win10-64bit-international
https://www.nv-drivers.eu/download-driv ... d-195.html
After updating from the device manager and still no respond.

Since then I have just been running windows Usb troubleshooting.

Hope there is a way..

Also on another note. You dont need to troubleshoot this, just info.

I´m running a Intous 3 ( your best digitizer ever!! ) on and on a Packard bell laptop. The new drivers doesn´t work, so still using WacomTablet_6.3.16-2 or WacomTablet_6.3.15-2 on Win 8. That means I cant switch between MSP desktop mode and my old beloved Intous 3, since the link needs the newest driver.

On a different note. That tree button 3d pen, is the best thing that happened to me Drawing andPainting. Erase/Right click/Alt (Colorpick) in photoshop, is just genius. You shouldn´t market that only as a 3d pen. The best drawing experience ever!

As I mentioned before, the Wacom Link Plus is not made to work with the MobileStudio Pro first generation. You can use the regular Wacom Link, or a different adapter 3rd party adapter. This has to do with the USB-C implementation that is used with the 1st Gen MSP and the Wacom Link Plus not being compatible. It's a mystery that you made it work to begin with.

DisplayLink drivers are for an entirely different type of device. It as nothing to do with MobileStudio Pro and Wacom Link / Wacom Link Plus.

Neither this is related to the Nvidia drivers. It's a good idea to keep them updated but this will not solve your problem.

Thanks a lot for the feedback. It really is appreciated. I am also a fan of the 3D pen even though I don't use any 3D applications.

Hi Wacom5.

Okay that is very disappointing! I was using that function every day, with two screens and no problems what so ever.
I did not get it to work, be running on the factory setup coming from Wacom. Did update the Bios, but that option is gone since windows reinstall.

Could that be a factor?

Is there a specific order or way Wacom install the MSP?

When I connected the link with out any computer attached, the MSP use to jump into black screen with a bar saying ( No screen detected ) or something like that. That does not happen anymore. Is there something hardware related for that detection?

I will try a hard reboot, see if that helps.

Ohh a hard reboot with no internet connection made it work again.

Maybe I could get a job at wacom? :)

By the way, being able to access the sd card in the MSP when in cintiq mode, is beyond genius! Great stuff.

Hi wacom5.

One last little thing. Everytime I connect the MSP to a computer the desktop center opens up and starts blinking in the windows bar. Is there a way to stop the auto launch?

I have unchecked the AutoStart and renamed the exe to WacomDesktopCenter.

Brilliant. I'm surprised it works but I'm glad it does.

If you disabled Auto start form the WDC options but it is still popping up try the steps here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4026268/windows-10-change-startup-apps
However I would recommend keeping the WDC active so that you receive notifications when a new driver is available.
