MSP 16 Cintiq Mode (extended desktop) not working

Postby FutureGraphics » Sat 24. Dec 2016, 07:22

Hi.

First off, I'm loving the "Wacom Mobile Studio Pro 16 i7". Coming from a Wacom Intuos 5 Medium Touch, and
a Wacom Companion Hybrid 16GB, this is a serious purchase as well as an investment, and so far I'm really loving
the power and the digitizer as well as all the features. Fantastic!

Now. I recently purchased and installed an "Ergotron LX LCD arm" with a "Ergotron LX notebook tray expansion" for the
MSP, and decided to read up on the possibility of using the MSP in extended desktop mode through a "USB Type C to
HDMI 2.0 active adapter" or a "USB Type C to DP 1.2 active adapter". After what I've read here and on reddit this is
all working. I purchased a "Club3D USB Type C to HDMI 2.0a active adapter" from a local retailer as well as a 5m
HDMI 2.0 certified cable, connecting it to my HDMI 2.0 port on either one of my Geforce GTX 1080s (SLI) or my dedicated
GTX 980Ti SC+ (PhysX) GPU. This does not work. I'm afraid perhaps the Club3D adapter isn't compatible, which would be
strange considering it has strong specifications and ain't cheap.

When I'm in "native" mode (utilizing the hardware on the MSP 16), connecting the USB C to HDMI adapter to one of the
three USB C ports on the MSP with the other end of the HDMI cable connected to one of the HDMI ports on my local GPUs,
nothing happens. In windows 10 on my desktop system the MSP 16 isn't recognized as a display in nvidias control panel.

However, I do receive an error message when disconnect and reconnect the USB C to HDMI adapter a few times.
The error message reads "Try improving the USB connection. DisplayPort connection might not work. Try using a
different cable."

What exactly does this mean? I have no idea where to continue from here. I even tried to hook up a
"Club3D HDMI 2.0 to DP 1.2 active adapter" that I purchased some time ago on the other end of the HDMI 2.0 cable and plug
it in to one of the available Displayports on the GPU(s). But that didn't lead to anything. So I'm basically stuck. Is there
something I should enable in the software? Something I've overlooked? I'm certain I read in one of the threads here recently and
on reddit that you could use any "USB Type C to HDMI 2.0" active adapter with the MSP 16. You didn't have to use a "USB Type C to
DisplayPort" active adapter in order for the MSP to be recognized in windows 10 on the desktop system as a display.

I hope you can provide me with some info as where to go from here.

Again, loving your products!

All the best,
Tor Erik.

Just to be sure: You are using the center USB-C port on the MSP ? This is the port required for the Wacom Link adapter with DSP. (Besides that we frequently use Apples USB-C to HDMI adapter for connecting HDMI monitors.)
