a resolution to my resolution issue?

Postby littleredplane » Thu 13. Sep 2018, 16:38

Hi there

This may be a dumb question but everyone has to ask one at some point!

I've used a Cintiq13 for some time and love it, and have just bought a fantastic refurbed 27HDtouch direct from Wacom..price was so good I couldn't turn it down. Anyway, I connect to my Mac (17 inch MacBook Pro 2011) via the thunderbolt port. As the resolution of this display is only 1920 x 1200 I guess I can't use the Cintiq's full HD potential? There's obviously no workaround I guess other than buying a new Mac (nope!)...I just wondered if anyone else was using this and if they'd found it caused any significant issues. I illustrate children's books mainly so wanted the larger screen for use on large spreads.

Love the product though and for a refurb, can't find even a scratch on it!

cheers
Nigel

In theory your 17" 2011 Macbook can drive a higher resolution than that. Are you mirroring the main screen? You need to run the Cintiq as an extended desktop, not a mirror of the main screen. According to Everymac your graphics card should support 2560x1600.

"2nd Max. Resolution: 2560x1600
Details: The maximum resolution supported on an external display is 2560x1600."

It seems very unlikely to me that you would be mirroring the main desktop but that's the only reason I can think of that you wouldn't be able to run at a higher resolution.
