Looking to 'upgrade' Cintiq 16 questions

Postby wiiman86 » Thu 14. Feb 2019, 05:52

Hi there! I've been the owner of the 21ux for quite a few years now and it's been a great investment. However lately I've been curious about the advancements that have been made with newer cintiqs. I've been eyeing the new cost effective cintiq 16 that just came out and from the looks of it, I'm leaning towards getting one. I'm a little cautious though as I'm not sure how much of an improvement it would be from my 21ux. I like the size of the 16, the matte display really interests me as drawing on a glass surface these many years has removed that paper to pencil feel you get when drawing traditionally. Also from what I'm hearing the new Pro Pen 2 the newer ones come with is the best out there when it comes to tablet display pens. What I'd like to know is if anyone has used the 21ux and purchased a newer model since then, is it worth it to change my current model? Thanks for your help!

Hi, I have the 16FHD since 2 days ago, I was working on the Cintiq 21 many many years ago, so I don't remember how the colors was on it, but I can tell you this:

16FHD PROS:
-quality/cost is awesome.
-pixel density is much better than 21UX, everything looks great.
-color gamut is acceptable (but I recommend you to have another trust monitor)
-Parallax looks like a little better than 13HD, though is not the new minimum that comes with Pro line, I guess it could be a bit better than Cintiq 21UX, can't tell this.
-it fits in my 15" laptop backpack.

Pro Pen 2 8K pressure points sounds more as a marketing thing, as some vector apps and some hands are unable to tell the difference between 500 or 8000 pressure levels, we did the test in the studio, no one could tell differences in a day working with both systems in Animate (maybe Photoshop is different)

21UX on other hand has more vertical pixel, and screen size is bigger, so some people could find this useful, I work very close to the tablet so to me this is horrible as I see everything pixelated.

if you want a really upgrade, I would go for the Pro 24, as this 2 devices are quite different.
