Dead Stripe

Postby Salient » Wed 21. Dec 2016, 19:43

Hi all,

I have two dead stripes on my otherwise perfect Cintiq 21. One is roughly 5cm from the top and is roughly 2.5cm wide and the other is roughly 5cm from the left edge and is also 2.5cm wide.

I know my unit is way out of warranty therefore I am not afraid to open it up. If anyone could direct me to a schematic or tell me where to look, what to replace, what to check or anything of the sort I would be very grateful.

Íf the dead strips reach from one end of the tablet to the other, the fault is on the sensor board and for repair we would replace the sensor board. (A sensor board consists of grid layers with vertical and horitzontal lines. If several of the connecting multiplexer electronic pieces fail, then you see dead strips, but it takes much time to find and replace the fault ones. So we just replace the whole board.)
We cannot do that In case of a Cintiq, where the digitizer sensor and the display are sealed together and the complete part (display+sensor) would have to be replaced. You cannot take them apart without getting dust inside.

If the dead part does not reach from end to end, the problem is probably only insufficient power for the pen (either not enough coming from USB or pen too old).
