Cintiq 21ux or Cintiq 13HD?

Hello, everyone.

There was a good opportunity to buy a Cintiq 21ux (2nd generation) but I already had in mind to buy a Cintiq 13HD because of the new technologies, high resolution and the Pro Pen. The 21ux has a bigger working screen and that interests me a lot.

What is your opinion about the difference between them? Thank you!

The Cintiq21UX has a lower screen resolution, though a bigger screen. And: you should be aware that the Cintiq21 was produced and sold til 2012, so there is no more warranty and even repair options will not last so long anymore as we run out of spareparts.

Running out of spare parts within 5 years is sad, but a few things are optional from other parties.

Most importnat is, are you want to be mobile, are you moving a lot or need it while away from your home desk? it would be the 13HD.
And then it depends what you going to use it for. If you use it for video, Flash and Maya, also as a 2nd monitor, I really prefer the 3:4, or 16:9 at max. The 16:10 is ok for Photoshop and watching movies (the movie watching is a joke). 16:10 is too wide IMO. Using apps with timelines your workspace gets even wider and more narrow. The stand of the big ones are also great I think and help keeping a more natural pose with your shoulders etc... I use both, totally prefer the 21UX over the 13HD, but as I move a lot it's too tireing to cary that thing and the 13 does the job as well. I don't bother much about the resolution and other little things, still good.

Also keep in mind, if you already have a tablet that you wnat to use, like me, an old intuos instead of a mouse, you may want to check that the drivers don't interfere, rahter being the same ones. E.g. if I would like to buy a new Cintiq, I'm forced to buy a new tablet that goes with the same driver. This is in my opinion the most screwed up thing... Multiple drivers may work with Mac, but seem to be more complicated on Windows machines.

Good luck!

If the price is good for the 21UX then I would seriously consider it. But it would have to be a low price, given Wacom1's comments. However, if it's not a used product, there's no reason why it shouldn't give you 5+ good years. It's so much comfortable to use than a 13" screen, even with the latter's superior resolution and pen technology. If the 21UX is used then I'd say forget it, too much of a gamble.

Are you able to let us know the price?
