[SOLVED/Driver installation] Supported Tablet Cannot Be Found On the System - Intuos Comic CTH-490 - Windows 10 -

Postby Smaragdos » Tue 7. Mar 2017, 11:14

Hi, I just bought an Intuos Comic CTH490 and tried to install it on My Dell Inspiron 15, Win10 OS.
Sadly this comes up as the prevalent error message: A Supported tablet was not found on the system. I have tried multiple things I've seen on the net but I cant find a solution.

I have tried installing other compatible(accdng to the wacom iste) versions of the model. Even the 6.3.13 version with the cd.

The tablet DOES have power though and does have light and responds to touch or pen by blinking. But other than that it does not work.
However it detected by the system as a mouse for some reason and I cannot find a way for it to work.
Am I doing something wrong here?

I really need some help here. Thanks in advance.

Did you have an older tablet installed before ? (The first driver supporting the CTH-490 is 6.3.14. If you have a CD with 6.3.13 that is for an older tablet model.) A message about 'no supported tablet found' is not coming from the driver, but from some application trying to access the driver. You may see this in the Wacom desktop Center when you try to open the Tablet properties.

I suggest to first unplug the tablet and uninstall any Wacom driver (in the software list tablet drivers and software show under Bamboo, Tablet, Pen Tablet or Wacom Tablet). Then restart Windows, go to device manager and check, if there is any Wacom entry still, remove it. If there is an HID compliant mouse with properties of Wacom, remove it as well. Then attach the tablet and wait til Windows has recognized it. There should be some new entries in device manager for HID and no problems. Then disable virus protection software temporarily and install the driver, version 6.3.20-7 is recommended and should work fine. - There should be a new folder C:\Program Files\Tablet. If you have configured you system to place Program Files on another driver, copy the Tablet folder from that drive to C:

Open the Wacom Desktop Center and check if the tablet is found. If not, attach the tablet to another USB port and in Desktop Center go to Backup settings -> Reset Settings. This resets and restarts the driver.

Hi!
1. No this is my first tablet purchase and installation. I did follow the instructions of the manual to use the CD encased to download the latest driver, maybe I made a mistake there?

2. I have to say that I did successfully install and use the tablet on my older windows 7 laptop using the 6.3.19 driver.

3. I have already tried uninstalling the tablet via Programs and Features and reinstalling the new drivers, same error message and Desktop Center also says it does not detect the tablet. Can you elaborate on where I can find any stray installation files that I need to remove? Is there a complete uninstall program?

4. It does recognize the tablet. The tablet light responds to touch, and now it no longer says it's a INTUOS PTS But the whole model number.

I did find these in Device Manager but were hidden/unused devices, Do I still remove them?

5. I found when a driver was installed, none of the devices in Device manager says anything about the Wacom Tablet, unlike in my Windows 7 laptop, there is a driver with the name Wacom Tablet under Human Interface.

6. Also, My microsoft update says this, is the Driver Downloader necessary to corretly detect my driver? i have not updated in a long time.

Thanks for putting up with me.

EDIT: I did what you suggested but nothing. Here are things that I found after:

used latest driver, still can't be detected by Desktop Manager. Still has the Tablet not detected error.

Windows still detects it as an intuos 490.

Still no Wacom Tablet driver.

What did I do wrong? Did I miss something to uninstall?

I would update Windows first - there shouldn't be a message anymore for 'Wacom Driver Downloader - waiting to install'. You can also check in device manager section 'mice and other devices' for some Wacom related entry. - Apart from that: After installation you should have a folder C:\Program Files\Tablet and there should be a file install.log, which could give some hint, whether something went wrong during installation.

Thanks, I'll get back to you when the updates install. It's a long list.

Hi! I got the tablet working! Thanks for all your help!
For anyone else having this trouble, here's what I did differently besides the installation procedure I was given above.

1. I restored my system to a point before I started installing the Tablet.

I assume I did something wrong at the beginning when I installed the drivers with the packaged CD case.
And there were alot of shadow copies of HID's on my Device Manager, so the simplest way to remove any Wacom related installation was to restore the system, i figured.

2. I completely Updated Windows.
I'm somewhat sure this was the cause of all the problems. The Wacom Driver Downloader update never came up again though, I just updated to the lastest Windows AU 1607.

3. Basically did those above. Plugged in the Intuos. Waited for the Device app to completely recognize the device as an Intuos 490 Pen and Tablet Device. Installed the latest 6.3.20 driver from the EU servers(dunno if this makes any difference). And the tablet worked right there. Didn't even restart the system.

Again, thanks alot! This has been annoying me for the last few days.

Its a good trait to be humble but in this case you shouldnt be. Its not your fault, Wacom have known about this for many years now and they havent done anything to solve the problem. Ive spent so many hours because they fail to deliver proper software and im definitly not alone. They simply dont care, enough.

But please do prove me wrong Wacom, and fix that broken software of yours. 7 years late but you know, better late than never.

Kind regards
Stefan

A driver is tested and works for a certain defined configuration of operating system. If Windows is not up to date and basic standard Windows drivers are missing or corrupt, the tablet driver may not be able to find the tablet. Such situation can happen.
