6-3-21-8 Reintroduces Modifier Keys bug in Photoshop on mac

Postby daciang » Sat 22. Apr 2017, 10:31

There's this software called Photoshop and a few of the Wacom tablet users use it to draw with their tablets. About every 10 seconds you need to push something called "modifier keys" - alt, shift, ctrl. Please allow us to use the features of Photoshop and our Wacom products as advertised.

The latest Wacom driver brings back a lot of bugs, one of them being the modifier key bug in this Photoshop program thing. It wasn't there in the last version. The last driver version was good, but there still was one thing that drove me crazy:
After activating the on-screen-controls the Wacom driver takes the focus off the app you're working on and you can't really work normally until you smash your pen a few times into the tablet.

Anyway, I hope Wacom can fix the modifier keys bug in the next 6 months or so. That's about how long it took last time.
Until then, back to the older driver, with slightly fewer bugs.

I'm excited to see what old bugs will be unleashed next. Every driver update is a roll of the dice! Maybe someday they will have working products.

Sorry, we cannot see any loss of focus or modifier key bug in the latest driver. It sound rather that you have some software running, that is stealing the focus regularly. - I would disable any PS plugins for testing, turn off Wacom Desktop monitor and check in acitvity monitor for other active software, especially related to keyboard handling. If your tablet model supports touch, turn that also off for testing. Test it in different programs. If the problem continues, contact our support with the details: os version, app and driver version affected, etc. We need more details to reproduce the problem.

Wacom, you continue to reply to each "modifier key issue with latest mac driver" post with the same denial. When your message board fills up with the same complaint over and over again after a driver release, it's time to take another look into the issue. I'm baffled by the fact that each day you see the same complaint and each day you deny the issue exists. Video evidence should be enough to persuade a second look.

I'm tired to do tests on my own. I have done so many, I've done videos, I've done it all.
You know I don't have any software interfering with anything. I don't use plugins. I've been using the same software for years - Always Os X latest version, always the Adobe CC suite latest version and always the latest Wacom drivers. I have many products on my desk. I never visit any other forum than Wacom. I never have any problems with anything except with Wacom. All the time.
There is the possibility that Apple and Adobe don't want Wacom to be successful for some reason and they keep sabotaging you with every one of their release. But I think that's a long shot.

Here's a list of my current Wacom problems:
-modifier keys bug - had to revert to older driver
-in Lightroom, I have one of the buttons on the tablet assigned to Cmd+Alt+Shift+A. In both the latest driver and the driver before this button doesn't work. Instead, it does a strange command, equivalent to Cmd+D, which would be Deselect All. I never set this key combination anywhere.
-in Photoshop, sometimes, immediately after using an on-screen shortcut and applying a command, with the brush tool selected, I am unable to use the pen. I touch it to the tablet but it draws nothing. It only starts working again after I touch the tablet with my finger.
Workflow: I click pen button to display on-screen shortcuts, with the brush tool selected. I select a shortcut to create a new layer for example. I touch the pen to the tablet and it doesn't work. I touch the tablet with my finger and then again with the pen and then the pen works.
-tablet has recurrent problems with touch - it loses al sensitivity to touch. If I unplug it and plug it back in it works again. Of course the touch and gesture capability is much inferior to the built in Apple trackpad.
-pen double clicks. this is system wide. Again, a well known issue around here.
-sometimes in wireless mode the tablet loses connection although it's 30 cm away from the usb transmitter. I know you'll never fix this because it's a physical limitation of the tablet.

This is my second tablet, after the first one's usb connection broke down. Another known issue, the cable is easily yanked out with your sleeve and the usb port is too fragile. Always have to be careful not to break this one too.

*sigh*

Seems communication inside Wacom support structure is far from perfect, cause I just received an email from a Wacom support specialist (I have a case opened with them since last December, and I emailed them again as soon as I figured the sticky key bug is back) saying that the driver team and the support team are both aware of this issue now, have identified it, and they are working on fixing it. I mean...
It's hard for me to understand how you can reply that 1) no one reported this issue, and 2) Wacom had nothing to do with it, when just this forum and Wacom official Facebook page alone have so many people mentioning that modifier keys are being stuck again after updating to the newest driver..
P.S. Just to make it clear - sticky keys are back for me as well. Like I mentioned in the other topic here, I work on MacBook Pro mid 2015 running latest version of Sierra, using Intuos Pro M and PS CS6.

This is frustrating. German support told me they get this issue reported every day and feel helpless and sorry and can only advice to use old drivers.

SOMETHING IS WRONG IN THEIR MANAGEMENT OR DRIVER DEPARTMENT!!!!

I've got the same issues posted here, using an Intuos Pro large, and OSX Sierra. (Then pretty much every other app. too.)

An ongoing conversation with the support people resulted in them telling me this morning to install the "6.3.21-8" version of the driver. This indeed removes the annoying "random-double-click" in finder issue, Brilliant solution, but replaces that with the broken modifier keys. I've just replied to them to let them know that this solution has had zero effect on the situation, and has made it somewhat worse.

I've tried each of the drivers since 6.3.15-3, both connected via USB (Directly connected, no hub) and wireless, but nothing has made any difference. With each of the driver updates the situation is the same. Double clicking gone, but modifier keys unusable.

So, it seems that we have to choose between, "6.3.15-3" and random double clicking - or "any version of the driver after that" and have broken/sticky modifier keys.

If it helps anyone else to make use of their wacom, I am using my Wacom as a mouse mat as it's the only way I can currently get anything like productive use out of the thing. Looking forward to being able to use it again for its intended purpose, but I fear that I now have a very expensive Mouse Mat/Drinks tray/Fly swatter/thing to rest paper on.

Thanks for the good times Wacom, but it seems this is where Apple and Wacom are parting ways, such a shame after having enjoyed great use of their tablets for the last 20 years. Yup, it's been that long, but if I can't make daily use of a tool that I use daily, then I will have to go back to using a mouse again and wait until Trust or Huions tablets offer the same features... and they are improving fast.

Anyway. How does this clicky mouse thing work again?
