Bamboo Tablet - Pen reacts without touching

Postby Bambus » Fri 6. Apr 2018, 16:19

Hi,

I am asking here for a friend that is not locally here and by the way does not speak English well.

She told me that yesterday evening her usually used tablet did not react as usual that day before.
So she continued that yesterday a single/sheer move 1-2cm over the tablet's surface led the paint program to draw a brush stoke (I don't know, what brush she exactly used, but I think oil - not airbrush - in Photoshop (old Version 5) - as she ever does.)
The day before, she needed to touch the pen's needle/pinnacle down on the tablet to draw anythning.
Now a flying/air move seems to be enough to draw.

In fact that her kids (14 yr old) played with the computer just before, she is afraid that they have changed something or even played with the tablet? I don't know she told not exactly. (I guess they played normal pc games [e.g. GTA, WoW, whatever] without the tablet, but maybe they used the tablet for painting aswell)
But I can't explain myself how this would set the sensitivity of the tablet so high.
I myself had one, years ago (Pen Partner, 2001 or so) and can't imagine that a tablet would get damaged by anyhting - that way.

I think she's using Win10 - we did not talk about that. And I don't know the precise article name of the bamboo tablet. (But guess a 8" or so. is there any?)

I advised her to reinstall the drivers. Maybe she (or her boyfriend) knows how to do this. :)

Does one have an idea what it could be?

It sounds like a hardware problem of the pen. Open tablet properties, press Ctrl while clicking on About->diagnose, then check pen pressure with the pen not touching the tablet yet. In this case pressure should be zero or close to zero. - If not, pull out the nib, wipe it clean and push it back in, set pen tip feel to firm. That may fix it. - If the pressure looks ok in diagnostics panel, reset the driver - that should help in case of any wrong tablet settings.
