Art Pen "Stepping" Issue - Pressure Broken

Postby hsharp327 » Wed 5. May 2021, 20:17

Along with having Rotation issues with my art pen (my previous post, please go read that one too, i need help), my Art Pen creates a "stepping" effect with it's seemingly broken Pressure sensitivity settings. The issue doesnt happen with the default Wacom Stylus that comes with the Cintiq or tablet.

Im using a Cintiq when this happens, but when I use an Intuos tablet, the probelm is still there, but it results in a heavy-pressure "blob" at the beginning of the stroke, which makes all my brush strokes look like crude dicks.

Im not sure how to post images here, so you can see them on my reddit post:
https://www.reddit.com/r/wacom/comments ... ing_issue/

Drivers are updated, this problem happens in other versions of Photoshop. Any ideas what the issue is?

Are all Art Pens this terrible? Or is mine just broken? Is there another solution?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,
I have seen the other thread and the Reddit post. I can see pressure wise (for rotation see my reply in the other post) the pen behaves correctly with the Cintiq so the issue is probably related with the settings in the Intuos Pro.
Can you confirm the model number of the Intuos Pro you are using?
If you reset the Wacom Driver Settings (backup first through the Wacom Desktop Center) does the issue still occur?
What happens if you turn ON/OFF "Tip-up" assist from the Driver Options? https://www.wacom.com/en-de/support?guideId=151-181

Incorrect, the pressure issue is actually worse on the cintiq. Each stroke is jagged. The strokes are more smooth on the tablet, but the tablet strokes have a "shoelace" effect on their ends, where the pressure gets small but evens out, creating a perfectly rectangular tail to the stroke that looks like a shoelace.

OK. I misread the issue. I see what you mean by stepping now. I don't think this is a Hardware issue at it's core. As I mentioned in the other thread, this needs to be followed up with the support team and more data needs to be collected.

SO Wacom Support suggested i buy a new Art Pen stylus.

I did, and the pressure stepping issue and shoelace effect still occur.

I think this must be an issue with how sensitive or janky the art pens themselves are. Because I dont get this bad effect when using the default wacom pens

The impression I have have is that this is either a setup issue - you may need to tweak the pen to work with the software, or there a driver bug we are not aware of.
The Support team will need more details about how you setup the brush(es), etc.
