MSP 16" Windows 10 v1607 spinning wheel on startup after automatic update

Postby WMSPman » Mon 5. Feb 2018, 17:34

My last automatic Windows update was about a month ago, things were fine until Windows 10 attempted an auto-update today to v1709 which resulted in constant spinning wheel after reboot.

I waited for hours but it just kept spinning (not frozen). What is wrong with Windows 10 update not being able to reboot MSP during update process? I had to force shut down a couple of times and finally the system went into "Restoring Previous Version".

Checking the Windows 10 "Update History", I see "Windows 10 v1709 Failed to install on.."

Re: MSP 16" stuck in spinning wheel on startup after windows update

Postby WMSPman » Mon 5. Feb 2018, 17:40

After more investigation, the current version of my Windows 10 is 1607.

According to Microsoft, "WIndows 10 version 1607 is not yet at end of service. However, it must be updated to latest versions of Windows 10 to ensure protection from security threats."

This is going to be a real problem is MSP 16" can't go beyond 1607. Especially that mine is clean machine with nothing on it except the Adobe Creative Cloud apps so I don't think my OS is messed up.

Anyone else having this issue?

The problem is, after "restoring to a previous version of windows", Windows still keeps trying to upgrade to the latest v1709 version constantly after a while, so it would get into the spinning wheel and never boots in successfully after update.

This loop is driving me crazy but apparently I'm the only person in the world having this problem?

Inspired by this post viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1516

I finally reset my MSP to default, and during the restart Windows found v1709 and updated to it successfully.

The only downside is I will have to spend hours reloading all the apps and configuring everything. Thank you Wacom.
