Random Photoshop freezing on MSP 16 i7

Postby tomatogoatee » Wed 2. Jan 2019, 21:25

Just like the subject says. When I use Photoshop on my MSP, things start out fine. Everything responds as expected with no issues. But after a couple hours, Photoshop will start randomly freezing up on a stroke and I have to minimize/maximize the program to get it to respond again. Everything is up to date on the tablet (Wacom drivers, Windows 10, and Adobe PS CC2019). This is driving me batty because I don't have this problem on my home rig in Photoshop using either my MSP or Cintiq displays. I get that MAYBE my desktop is "more powerful" than the MSP, but my rig is pretty dated at this point. (i7-3770 with 16GB ram.)

I thought it was the file size MAYBE, but after a fresh reboot, everything runs fine, regardless of the PSD file size. After an hour or so, though, I start getting these slowdowns again. Closing PS alone doesn't solve it; I need to do a proper reboot.

Has anyone encountered a similar situation? If so, how did you correct it? Rebooting every hour or so is not my ideal solution, but it's all I got right now...

This issue seems to be reported once in awhile in Adobe forums and Reddit and seems to be unrelated to the hardware or the OS for that matter. Please check:

Seems that resetting PS prefences is resolving this issue for most users.

Reset preferences, eh? Why not? Every time I update my Wacom driver, my EK preferences get wiped out. Why not do the same for PS?

This shouldn't be the case. The update should not remove your current preferences. Are you doing a clean driver install each time? If you backup the preferences and then recover them after the driver update, does it work?

I use the Wacom Desktop Center app to handle updates. The last two driver updates on both my desktop and my MSP have wiped out my EK shortcuts. Especially troublesome on my desktop, because I have an EK remote. I've taken to backing up the settings BEFORE updating the driver to avoid it in the future.

Also, wiping out the PS preferences didn't resolve the problem. I suppose I'll hit Adobe's forms.

Running from Wacom Desktop Center should be ok and should not delete your preferences. I cannot reproduce this behaviour. Can you tell me a little bit more about your setup? Did you install the driver in the recommended folder? Are you running it on the Windows Admin account?
Does importing the preferences work?
